Wedgwood Reiki

Though a fairly modern Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing, Reiki was acutally developed in the early 20th century by Mikao Usui from very ancient practices.  Usually administered by placing the hands directly on or slighlty above particular areas of the patient's body and allowing Reiki enegry to flow, it seeks to boost the natural Reiki energy in a person for their highest good and wellbeing.

The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words - Rei meaning higher power and Ki which is life force energy. Reiki has two main traditions- Western - the most commonly know which has many rituals, and Japanese (used here at Wedgwood) - less commonly known - and much more focused on simple intuition than ritual

Often described as deeply relaxing, Reiki treats the whole person body, emotions, mind and spirit creating benefits including relaxation, feelings of peace, security and wellbeing.

It is a simple, natural and safe method of self-improvement that everyone can use and easily works in conjunction with all other medical or therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects and promote recovery.

It has no religious, dogmatic or philosophical pretexts and no belief system, rather a set of simple precepts to live by, creating harmony with others, ethical ideals and the practice of meditation, mindfulness and self development.  Its use is not dependent on intellectual capacity or spiritual development and therefore is available to everyone.

Usui's Precepts:

The secret art of inviting happiness

Just for today

Do not anger
Do not worry

Be humble
Be honest in your dealings

Be compassionate to people and yourself.

Usui Reiki Treatment for the improvement of body and mind

A typical treatment at Wedgwood Reiki

Following a brief history, explanation and consent, you will be asked to sit in a chair or lay down on a couch, closing your eyes and just relaxing.

The practitioner may examine your energy field then move around you quietly, sometimes placing one or both hands on you whilst channeling the Reiki energy.  Treatments at Wedgwood Reiki typically last around an hour.  Most Reiki therapy requires 4-6 treatments.
