What is hypnotherapy?
Known and used for centuries, hypnosis is a natural and normal state of altered consciousness which anyone can easily enter and which is associated with experiences such as dreaming, pleasant feelings of calmness and relaxation which, whilst neither awake, asleep or unconscious has characteristics of all these states. The unconscious part of your mind is much more available for suggestion when you are deeply relaxed and it is this part of your mind that the hypnotherapist will communicate with, implanting positive beneficial suggestions for the changes you want and need whilst you are very deeply relaxed.
You may or may not remain fully aware of everything that happens during the session but you are likely to re orientate feeling very comfortable and relaxed.
Typically at Wedgwood Hypnotherapy you will spend 1/2 to 1 hour of your first session providing a very detailed history including your medical and medication history - some of which may not appear to be related to the problem with which you are presenting. The therapist will discuss a treatment plan, suggesting how many sessions you may require and ask you to sign a consent (which you can withdraw at any time). You may have your first treatment at this point or arrange another appointment.
Each session at Wedgwood Hypnotherapy will last about an hour and you will relax in a reclining chair. There are many techniques the therapist may use but usually you will simply be asked to relax back in the chair, close your eyes and listen.
You are always fully in control and can ask for the session to stop at any time.
NB: if you are epileptic or being treated for clinical depression you should declare this to the therapist as this is important for the therapist to know.
Patients with mobility problems should discuss this with the therapist.
Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied at each session by the parent or legal guardian who will provide consent.
You are welcome to, and are encouraged to, bring a chaperone or friend with you to any session who will be made comfortable in another room.
NB: results and success may vary from client to client.
